Volunteer Key Tasks and Responsibilities

CORE TASKS

As part of your duties as a Helpline Counsellor, you will be entitled to attend the following events:

Training and Development

  • Several group training workshops throughout the year

Supervised Sessions

  • Monthly group sessions involving professional clinical supervision
  • Individual supervision sessions as desired

3-hour Helpline Shifts

  • Three 3-hour helpline shifts per month
  • Shift responsibilities may include telephone counselling, text & email support

 Extra Activities and Events

  • Youthline Otago Treaty of Waitangi workshop
  • Annual Review with the Volunteer Manager
  • Annual General Meeting

In addition to these Core Tasks, there are many further opportunities for personal development and involvement including:

  • Co-facilitation of Training
  • Mentoring
  • Governance Committee
  • Staff Events such as Youth Expo, Careers Expo, Drive to Survive Expo
  • Fundraising and Promotion
  • Community Events
  • Socials

Being a Helpline Counsellor is a highly rewarding experience. At Youthline Otago, we provide our volunteers with abundant resources and opportunities to deliver direct help to those in need, learn indispensable skills and develop as individuals while having a blast working together along the way.
